Girls On the Run:  A nationally-renowned running program designed for girls in 3rd through 5th grade, is beginning a chapter at Glen Grove! This program is designed specifically for young girls, with a goal of developing self-respect and healthy lifestyle habits, all the while encouraging physical fitness through running. The 12-week program, which will meet twice a week (Mondays and Wednesdays after school), culminates with participation in a 5K race, along with other Girls On the Run programs throughout Chicago.

The group began training in March 2010. In its inaugural year we had to limit enrollment to 15 girls and chose participants through a lottery, however, the program has been widely embraced by the girls and parents and we are hoping to expand in the upcoming season. To do that, we need more mom coach volunteers.... If you would like to join us, please email Kelly Konrad at kelkon@me.com. We would especially like to see some incoming 3rd grade moms join us, so that we can keep the program going -- and growing! Coaching involves two hours a week with the girls, a one-day training session (probably in July or August) and CPR certification, also offered through Girls on the Run.

If you have any questions about the program, you can visit their web site at www.girlsontherun.com, or call Site Coordinator Kelly Konrad at 1-847-832-9773.
