News from Girls on the Run
It's been a fantastic first season for Girls on the Run at Glen Grove, and the coaches couldn't have asked for a better group of girls. EVERYONE is invited to join us for the Girls On The Run 5K on Saturday, June 5th at Montrose Harbor in downtown Chicago. To register, visit http://www.gotrchicago.org/wondergirl5kf/index.html?fid=G62V2K7
It promises to be inspiring and lots and lots of good old fashioned fun!
We're already thinking ahead to fall, and the possibility of running two sessions to accommodate more girls. To do that, we need help -- namely, coaches. If you would like to join us, please email Kelly Konrad at kelkon@me.com. We would especially like to see some incoming 3rd grade moms join us, so that we can keep the program going -- and growing! Coaching involves two hours a week with the girls, a one-day training session (probably in July or August) and CPR certification, also offered through Girls on the Run.
The Westbrook/Glen Grove PTA sponsored:
Kids Can Make A Difference, “Funds for Food” Competition
The Northfield Pantry, which serves our community, has recently seen a surge in the number of families in need and desperately and called for our help and WOW - we answered!!!!
We have another reason to be very proud of our students!! Together, the students of Westbrook and Glen Grove have raised over $6,000 for the Northfield Food Pantry!! What an amazing result. Due to such and overwhelming school victory, the PTA has decided to reward every student with an ice cream treat! (As always, we will consider take allergy concerns.)
The Glen Grove Book Fair a Huge Success!
Thanks to our chair Mary Zenzola, co-chair Katie Bauer and all of the book fair volunteers for bringing a wonderful book fair to Glen Grove this week! Thanks to all of you parents and students that stopped by to purchase your summer reading books! Thank you for buying books for the classroom too! All profits are paid directly to the school in books: the LRC received over 200 books, each student will once again receive one book next year during t.v. turn off week and each teacher received $100 worth of books for their classrooms!

Thanks to our chair Becky Kadel, co-chair Michelle Saperstein and all of our parent volunteers for organizing a wonderful Ice Cream Social! Thanks to you parents and students for attending! AN EXCITING NEW ADVENTURE......
Girls On the Run is at Glen Grove
Girls On the Run, a nationally-renowned running program designed for girls in 3rd through 5th grade, is beginning a chapter at Glen Grove! This program is designed specifically for young girls, with a goal of developing self-respect and healthy lifestyle habits, all the while encouraging physical fitness through running. The 12-week program, which will meet twice a week (Mondays and Wednesdays after school), culminates with participation in a 5K race, along with other Girls On the Run programs throughout Chicago.
The group began training this March. Because this is the first year Glen Grove is participating, we had to limit enrollment to 15 girls and chose participants through a lottery. If the program is successful, we look forward to expanding it in the fall. In order to expand the program, we need additional coaches - if you have interest in coaching please contact Kelly Konrad.
If you have any questions about the program, you can visit their web site at www.girlsontherun.com, or call Site Coordinator Kelly Konrad at 1-847-832-9773.
